Match Report: FC Seaside vs. MIIS FC 4 – 2

In Uncategorized on September 28, 2011 by miisfc

Playing with a heavily depleted squad, the Globadores were handed their first defeat at the hands of FC Seaside. MIIS were missing 6 players already before kick-off, and went down another after Geoff Quiros pulled up injured while scoring for MIIS early in the game.  A weakened MIIS defense struggled endlessly to contain a very athletic and skillful Seaside attack.

The Globadores had no subs available for nearly the entire match. With no rest under the hot sun, the Globadores were losing steam in the second half as they struggled to score an equalizer while the game was still 3-2. However, Seaside scored their fourth goal to secure all 3 points.

The Globadores will look to bounce back against DLI this Sunday at 11:00. This Sunday the Globadores should have almost a full roster and will see the competitive debut of the Globadores newest members, Peter and Libby.

Match Report: MIIS FC vs. NPS 4 – 0

In Uncategorized on September 20, 2011 by miisfc

Juan Vasquez unleashes a shot. Juan registered a goal and an assist, earning himself game MVP.

The Globadores won themselves another 3 points on Sunday. This time more comfortably against NPS. Sterling defensive displays from Rene Cardenas, Alex Adelson, Rory Stanley, Will Schlossberg, Roger Yong Zhu, and Juan Castagnino contributed to MIIS registering the first clean sheet of the season. Juan Vasquez assisted brilliantly on the first goal and scored the second and terrorized the opposing back line throughout the match in a breakout performance.

Early in the first half, the NPS defense frustrated the MIIS attack going forward. MIIS controlled the game from the outset, but the Globadores were unable to connect in the final third. As the game settled in the MIIS attack became more organized. The deadlock was broken suddenly when a clever passing play lead Jason Hernandez to release Juan Vasquez, who wrong footed the defender with an excellently weighted return pass into the path of the surging Hernandez with the outside of his boot.  Hernandez wasted no time burying the shot with his first touch, putting it past the charging keeper.

The second and third goals came in quick succession after that. Juan Vasquez scored the second with a deft curling finish. The third came after Jason Hernandez’s cross was handled by an NPS defender in the 18 yard box. The ref pointed to the spot and Martino Prada stepped up to slot home the penalty.

The second half was more open and disorganized. The Globadores had the run of play throughout, creating numerous chances. However, both sides failed to control possession and sloppy finishing kept the ball out of either net. It wasn’t until the last ten minutes that Hima Shiotani delivered the clean finish on the end of a pass from Manuel “Manu” Martinez to reward all the hard running he and the rest of the Globadores had done in the second half. Hima’s goal capped a dominant display by the Globadores which saw MIIS defeat a local rival 4 – 0.

Goals by: Jason Hernandez, Juan Vazquez, Martiño Prada (pk) and Himayu Shiotani

assists by: Juan Vazquez, Martiño Prada, Jason Hernandez and Manuel Martinez.

Match Report: MIIS FC vs. Monterey Ducks

In Uncategorized on September 15, 2011 by miisfc

It may not look like it, but the above photo is of one of the most exciting moments in recent Globadores history.  Sean Malvey fires home to give MIIS FC the lead in the 87th minute on his debut.

Sunday, Sept. 11, The Globadores stepped onto the pitch at the Breaker Stadium knowing that any points won on the day would not come cheap. Monterey Ducks are one of the perennial title contenders in the league and many of their players have been playing together for years. The Globadores had only had two weeks of practice together, and had no fewer than 4 debutantes in the starting line-up. The Globadores could hardly have asked for a tougher test on the first day of the season.

The Globadores got off to a shaky start as the Ducks scored an early goal.  MIIS began to fight back. First with a great goal that began with an excellent run by Geoff Quiros. Geoff controlled a through-ball pass after turning the defender and tested the keeper with a snap shot. Manuel Martinez pounced on the rebound and buried the ball in the back of the net to score the Globadores first goal of the season and his first for MIIS FC.

As the First half wore on, the game became more open. Jason Hernandez managed to break free of the defense and score to put the Globadores ahead.  The Ducks then scored twice late in the first half. Using the half-time break to regroup and refocus, the Globadores came out swinging in the second half.  However, a stingy Ducks defense kept the Globadores out of their goal. Frustrated the Globadores pushed on the attack. Right on time, Jason Hernandez was played in behind the defense and after bugling the ball past the Duck’s keeper, tapped in the finish to draw the Globadores level.

As both teams pushed for a late winner, the game opened up and the Globadores looked to spring their wingers Sean Malvey, Lars Loktu, and Juan Vasquez down the flanks. After a frustratingly exciting, but fruitless period of play, the game looked certain to end in a draw as time was running out. However, Sean Malvey had other ideas. Capping off a fine performance full of running and industry, Sean took on his defender out on the right wing and beat him down the flank, cutting back near the top of the box, Sean fired a wicked low shot at goal, beating the keeper at the near post and securing all 3 points for MIIS FC with only 3 minutes left on the clock.

The whistle blew to call and end to the match. MIIS FC won 4-3. For the new members of the Globadores, it was a hard fought victory in which they had to come from behind twice. However, the MIIS veterans know that the debutantes are only now beginning to understand how much a win against the Ducks means to the Globadores.

Goals were scored by Manuel Martinez, Jason Hernandez (2) and Sean Malvey, assists by Martiño Prada (2), Geoff Quiros and Rob Olney.
