Juan Vasquez unleashes a shot. Juan registered a goal and an assist, earning himself game MVP.
The Globadores won themselves another 3 points on Sunday. This time more comfortably against NPS. Sterling defensive displays from Rene Cardenas, Alex Adelson, Rory Stanley, Will Schlossberg, Roger Yong Zhu, and Juan Castagnino contributed to MIIS registering the first clean sheet of the season. Juan Vasquez assisted brilliantly on the first goal and scored the second and terrorized the opposing back line throughout the match in a breakout performance.
Early in the first half, the NPS defense frustrated the MIIS attack going forward. MIIS controlled the game from the outset, but the Globadores were unable to connect in the final third. As the game settled in the MIIS attack became more organized. The deadlock was broken suddenly when a clever passing play lead Jason Hernandez to release Juan Vasquez, who wrong footed the defender with an excellently weighted return pass into the path of the surging Hernandez with the outside of his boot. Hernandez wasted no time burying the shot with his first touch, putting it past the charging keeper.
The second and third goals came in quick succession after that. Juan Vasquez scored the second with a deft curling finish. The third came after Jason Hernandez’s cross was handled by an NPS defender in the 18 yard box. The ref pointed to the spot and Martino Prada stepped up to slot home the penalty.
The second half was more open and disorganized. The Globadores had the run of play throughout, creating numerous chances. However, both sides failed to control possession and sloppy finishing kept the ball out of either net. It wasn’t until the last ten minutes that Hima Shiotani delivered the clean finish on the end of a pass from Manuel “Manu” Martinez to reward all the hard running he and the rest of the Globadores had done in the second half. Hima’s goal capped a dominant display by the Globadores which saw MIIS defeat a local rival 4 – 0.
